ABOUT

The Order of the House of Wessex, was founded 27 April 2017 and incorporated on 2 November 2017, and is based  lineal descent through the Anglo-Saxon Kings of England. The lineage runs from King Cerdic, the first King of Wessex (ruled 519-534), through King Alfred the Great (ruled 871-899), who unified the seven Anglo-Saxon kingdoms to create a unified Anglo-Saxon England, to King St. Edward the Confessor, the last of the House of Wessex to be King of Anglo-Saxon England (ruled 1042-1066). Saint Margaret, who became Queen Margaret of Scotland when she married King Malcolm III Canmore of Scotland, was the granddaughter of the last Wessex King, Edmund Ironside.  Saint Margaret's daughter with King Malcom III was Matilda (also known as Maud), who was the first wife of King Henry I.  This marriage connected the Anglo-Saxon Kings with the Plantagenet Kings.

The Order is a 501(c)3 charity as of 17 Nov 2017.
